A new kind of New Year’s
December 31, 2009

2009 has been a really great year for me.  Of course, I’ve had some highs and lows, but mostly highs that are great enough that can overshadow the lows.  I met some wonderful people, ran a fantastic race with my best friend, bought a fabulous condo (lovingly dubbed “The Bachelorette Pad”), successfully juggled two great jobs, and overall had a really fun time!

I’ve never really been one to have New Year’s resolutions, because it seems like you’re just asking yourself to fail when you put so much expectation on yourself. (though I’d really like to start getting my normally punctual butt to work on time more often)  But I do know that I have a few things I’m planning to accomplish this year, and they will be done, such as Hooping the Half Marathon, and continuing running, and visiting more with Barbie (maybe we’ll run another great race together!).  But I guess if I could have New Year’s resolutions or New Year’s wishes, I would make them for my friends:

For Barbie:  Continued happiness (and warmth) in Canada, more healthy (injury free) running, a successful school year, and her husband in the same house!

For Kentucky:  Health and happiness for her family and that she makes it through a particularly difficult New Years, and a wonderful wedding in the fall!

For Legally:  A relatively stress- (and boredom-) free job, a visit to The Bachelorette Pad (ok that one’s selfish on my part), and more success with her cake/goodies baking (if you haven’t checked it out on my blog links – Seriously Sweet is seriously cute), and hopefully she’ll bring me some goodies too (selfish plug #2), and more (injury free) of that super fast running she seems to do!

For Bama:  A successful school year, more fun nights watching TV (seriously that girl loves to entertain), and visits to both of our pools!

For Mister T:  A happy, healthy year for his family, and better decision making skills for our lunch dates.

For Mama-cita:  That her children continue to be happy and healthy, and a stress-free year with family.

For Shutterbug:  Lots and lots of work that is both fun and lucrative, and an opportunity to shoot us fire hooping!

For zico01:  More fun blogging and commenting (I always look forward to his comments here), and a joint blogging adventure with me and Barbie!

For all my hooper friends:  Lots of hooping, pretty hoops, and success on the Hooping the Half Marathon event day!

For Diva Kitty:  Lots and lots of cheese, fish, and crepes. (Yes apparently she likes crepes now)  More fun looking out the window at birds, squirrels, and chipmunks.  And attacking whatever it is that irks her on the stairs in the Bachelorette Pad.

Support Structure
September 2, 2009

Sally’s had a lot of things going on in her life lately.   The phrase roller coaster seems apropos.  There have been ups and downs and sharp side turns.  However, like any roller coaster, you need a good support structure to withstand this ride.  Otherwise everything falls apart and someone gets hurt.  I discovered a great support structure recently and want to give credit to these beams and joists and bolts.

Some of the greatest support and advice I’ve gotten recently (and over several years of my past) have come from Barbie (of course), Mama-cita (a long-time close friend and supermom), and Mister T (not the guy with the beard and chains, but a friend who helps with the male perspective).  Each one is unique and supports me in different, but important ways.   I have also found support and advice from Kentucky and Legally.  Though newer friends with no real obligation to lend an ear, they have proven valuable and I’m grateful for it.  I’m stronger with my support structure and might even be able to have a safer and more fun ride with it.  (even if the fun is laughing at it only after I’ve completely debarked the ride and standing safely on the ground)

Super week!
November 30, 2008

Wow, this has been a super week.  First, I went for a run on Tuesday, the last one before the big race.  And on the last mile of my run, I came across a bunch of stuff out on the street in front of a house under renovation.  And I found this little gem!  I have been in desparate need of a filing cabinet.  This one is substantial and I have the bruise on my inner thigh to prove it.  When I got home at the end of my run, I drove back over and picked it up.  It was out by the trash and some other stuff, so I figure they were getting rid of it.  Yay free stuff!

I have previously posted about Turkey Day and lots of successful cooking, so I will spare those details.

I also got to catch up with my friend from law school, Legally Challenged.  (I’ll just call her Legally for short.)  It was so nice to see her again.  I don’t think we’ve seen each other since graduation!  We’ve emailed and talked on the phone, but it’s been a year and a half!!  We chatted for a couple hours, mostly about boys!!!  I also got to see her new car – super cute!  Hopefully I’ll get to catch up with her again when she’s home for the next holiday.

I also got to spend some time with Barbie while she was in town.  We went to lunch, which was yummy.  It was an opportunity for us to catch up, get some yummy Indian food, and do some girly shopping.  After a very delightful lunch, we stopped at a yarn store so Barbie could stock up on some fabulous supplies.  Then we hit up one of the great discount stores.  We each made some purchases that involved clothing and cookie cutters.  We both needed the cookie cutters.  I also bought a glass banana.  Yes, I said GLASS BANANA.  My office is having its holiday party next weekend and there is a white elephant gift exchange.  The glass banana was only $3.99 plus tax, and was Lenox – that famous glass and ceramics maker!  You know I’m already plotting to steal back my own gift!

And when I got home I decided it was finally time to put up my tree.  I haven’t finished decorating the rest of the house, but at least I got a little bit of festive-ness going on in one room!

After a long weekend and such a super week, here’s hoping that this week will just be just as great!!
